All Harvard Undergraduates are always welcome to audition for the opportunity to play in one of the jazz bands. Auditions are held formally in the fall of the year during Freshmen Orientation Week and throughout the year by appointment.

This year's (2023) auditions will occur on the following dates and times:

Brass and Woodwinds, Saturday, September 9th, and Sunday, September 10th, (please, sign up for an audition spot following the link below)

A group rhythm section audition will be held Sunday, September 10th, from 5pm - 6pm.

Location: 74 Mt. Auburn St, Cambridge (Second floor of Office, Arts building)

Audition requirements for the Harvard Jazz Orchestra consist of the following:

  • Play a jazz tune or head of your choosing.

  • You may improvise over the piece of your choosing or any other, if desired.

  • Sight read an excerpt from big band chart, offered by the panel.

  • Consider enrolling in Music 107 to receive credit for your participation in the jazz bands! You must enroll consecutively in the fall and spring semesters to receive one credit, and only four semesters can be taken for credit, for a total of two credits.
